Phantom has been playing for 14 years straight and played in many of the world's famous cities. Second runner up comes the Broadway production which opened on January 26, 1988.
Each performance requires 230 costumes, 70 wigs (some made out of real hair - ex: Christine), and 150 pairs of shoes.
There are 53 mechanic scenic effects.
Makeup artist transforming the actor into the Phantom takes approximately two hours.
Altogether there are 190 trap doors built into the stage deck. 130 of them are used for the rising candles in the Phantom's lair.

During the scene were the Phantom takes Christine down on the travellator (Act 1, Scene iv), the actors you see really aren't the actors playing Phantom and Christine - they're doubles. There are two pair of doubles in this scene. In the meanwhile, the real Phantom and Christine are busy getting into the mechanicalized boat.
Notice the "dummy" at the end of 'Music of the Night' - how can it look so real? It is played by an actress, the Christine understudy I would assume, who stands there for the entire scenes 5 and 6 (ever wonder if they get cramps? ;-). The "dummy" lying on the throne in the final scene is the actual dummy.
